Patrick M. O’Malley
November 14, 1952 - April 7, 2020
Patrick M. O’Malley, age 67, of New Prague, passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2020 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Pat was born on November 14, 1952 in New Prague. He was the son of Elzear and Edna (Kennedy) O’Malley of Le Center. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Le Center High School in 1970. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy. Pat married the love of his life, Bonnie Bastyr in 1982. They have one daughter, Kasey O’Malley. Pat worked on road construction for Progressive Contractors Inc. for 40 years.
Pat was a lover of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, especially ice fishing; he was also an avid deer hunter. He loved playing cards and visiting with family and friends. His grandson, Simon, was the apple of his eye and the two were inseparable in their time together.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; daughter, Kasey (fiancé, Doug Rosival); grandson, Simon; sisters, Virginia Heidemann of Eugene, OR, Janet (Bob) Grieson of Green Valley, AZ, Trudy Joerg, of Rochester, MN, Joan Gamsky of Hartford, WI, twin sister, Patty O’Malley of St. Paul, Mary O’Malley of St. Paul; brothers, Leo (Lucy) O’Malley of Le Center, Mike (Lori) Roettger of Merrifield, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Don, and Marlen O’Malley.
No services will be held at this time.

My classmate, can’t buy friends like Pat always was there in good and bad no matter what. My mom and dad were his God parents Pat Smith Sr and Aggie. When Pat would speak of his family his eyes would light up. We lost a good guy, My thoughts and prayers with Bonnie and family.

Bonnie, Kasey, Simon and Doug – my heart is broken, along with yours. Pat was such a bright light. We were there in February and pulled up to the house to be greeted by his big smile, while he was cleaning fish (of course). I will miss his smile, his stories, his laugh, being able to talk to him and catch up on life……our visits to MN will never be the same. You all are in my prayers. Pat hired me, an inexperienced farm kid, to work with him on the saw crew for PCI when I was 19 years old and looking for work. He taught me a lot about work ethics and responsibilities. He’s likely working on something in heaven right now. Rest In Peace Pat. My condolences to Bonnie and his family.
