JoAnn Doyle

September 4, 1934 - April 14, 2023

JoAnn M. Doyle, age 88, of New Prague, died peacefully at her home with family at her side on Friday, April 14, 2023. JoAnn was born on September 4, 1934 in New Prague to James E. and Rose A. (Pikal) Simon. She grew up in the New Prague area, attending country school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduating from New Prague High School. She attained her LPN degree from Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. JoAnn married James R. Doyle at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague on April 28, 1956. JoAnn wore many hats, working for a short time as an LPN but will be most remembered working at Gambles Hardware Store, which she co-owned with her husband, Jim. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed cooking at New Prague High School until her retirement. She was in 4-H as a child and carried that love for shaping children as a Cub Scout Pack Leader for her sons. Outgoing and gregarious, she was noted for her ability to make people laugh, her gentleness, the smile that lit up her face, and the twinkle in her eyes. She loved nothing more than family gatherings and following her children and grandchildren and attending whatever activities they were engaged in. All enjoyed the bread that she baked daily.

JoAnn is survived by her 6 children, Bruce (Marie) Doyle of Shakopee, Kimberly Doyle of New Prague, Greg (Cheri) Doyle of Inver Grove Heights, Eric Doyle of Woodbury, Ted (Anne) Doyle of Montgomery, Tammy Doyle of New Prague; 16 Grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Rhein of Elko New Market. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on May 7, 2014; parents; sister, Gretchen Rhein; brother-in-law, Clarence (Marcie) Doyle; sister-in-law, Bernice (Evan) Schmidt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating and Father Michael Tix concelebrating. Mass will be live-streamed on npcatholic.org. Visitation will take place Monday from 4:30-7 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 6:30. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.

Bruce, Kim, Greg, Eric, Ted, Tammy, and Family,
Our deepest sympathies to all of you. JoAnn always had a smile and a kind word. So sorry that we were not able to attend the services; Jean was ill. Jean and all of you are double second-cousins.
James E. Simon was my paternal Grandma Mary (Simon) Tupy’s brother, and Rose (Pikal) Simon was my maternal Grandma Olga (Pikal) Shambour’s sister. Wishing all of you peace, hope, and comfort during this time. Keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers.

Kim, sorry for your loss. Mom mentioned that her cousin passed away and wondered if I knew. I said I knew and was going to record and livestream. She wishes she could be there but it is getting harder for her. She will be 97 on the 18th.

Your family was our neighbor for a number of years. Had a lot of “over the clothes-line” chats with her as our families grew. A wonderful lady and former neighbor. May she Rest In Peace…
