Tony Timmer

April 1, 1928 – April 2, 2015

Tony Timmer, age 87, of New Prague, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  Tony was born April 1, 1928 in Browerville, MN to Henry and Catherine (Schneider) Timmer.  He attended Melrose Elementary and High School and then entered the US Air Force, which would become his career.  He was a decorated serviceman, serving in Okinawa, France, Crete, Korea, the Azores, and Vietnam; he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with the Oak Leaf Cluster, the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.  He was a heavy equipment operator in the Air Force and after retiring from the service, he worked for Donaldson Manufacturing in Bloomington for 16 years.  On December 27, 1979, Tony married Katharine A. (Heinen) Bruzek and the couple moved to New Prague in 1996.  Tony was a life member of VFW Post 1296 Everett McClay in Bloomington.  He was very creative and loved carpentry.  After retirement, he developed an interest in stained-glass work and along with many other projects,  made the window for the new church chapel door at St. Wenceslaus and he refurbished the stained glass windows at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli.  He also loved plowing snow, cutting grass, and his dogs.

Tony is survived by his son, Joe (& Sue) Timmer of Eden Prairie; daughters, Jody (& Chris) Sunne of Richfield, Mary McDonald of St. Paul, Sally (& Eugene) Schmid of New Prague, Peggy (& Tom) Baldwin of Dubuque, IA; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Katharine Bruzek Timmer on August 27, 1999; his parents, Henry & Catherine (Schneider) Timmer; infant son, William Henry Timmer; step-grandson, Jeff Schmid; 7 brothers, Leo (in infancy), Aloysius, Martin, Ray, Clarence, Lawrence, & Sylvester Timmer; 4 sisters, Mary Malacha, Margaret Beasley, Theresa Wilmot, & Caroline Gaspard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 9:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church with Father David Barrett officiating.  Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 8th from 4 – 8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Lunch will follow mass at the Legion Clubroom and burial will occur at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery that afternoon, with military honors being conducted.
