Steve Swenson

June 3, 1944 - July 13, 2025

Stephen A. Swenson, age 81, of New Prague, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Steve lived a life marked by love, service, and quiet determination.
He met the love of his life, Jean, on a blind date at the circus—an unforgettable beginning to a 57-year marriage. They were married on June 15, 1968. After living in the Twin Cities for several years, Steve and Jean followed their dream of country life and moved to a hobby farm in New Prague in 1977, where they raised their family and built a life full of meaningful work and community.

Steve’s long career in telecommunications began humbly—collecting change from public pay phones. Through years of dedication, he grew into an expert in the field, navigating numerous transitions from Ma Bell to Paradyne. He became a self-taught authority on computers and telecommunications, growing with the industry through hard work and self-motivation.

Known for his generous spirit, Steve could often be found flipping pancakes or playing Wii with his grandchildren, or offering a helping hand to anyone in need. He found joy in camping and fishing. His weekly men’s Bible study was a valued source of friendship and faith, grounding him in spiritual strength.
Steve is survived by his children: Sarah (Bill) Rosival and Steph (Dan) Hopper; grandchildren: Nate, Elizabeth, Katrina, and Tai; and great-grandchildren: Zoey and William. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandi and Debi, and sister-in-law, Carolyn.

He is now joyfully reunited with his beloved wife Jean, his parents, his brother Karlo, and his sister Karleen.

A service celebrating Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.. Refreshments will be served following the service.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and community of Windermere Pathways for the compassionate and loving care shown to both Steve and Jean in their final years.

Deepest Sympathies to Steve’s family. I had the honor and privilege of helping Steve and Jean sell their family home when they were moving to Shakopee. What an awesome example of marriage vows they were! Steve took such good care of Jean and handled the downsizing transition with such grace. He taught me a lot. May his family find comfort knowing he is together again with the love of his life and our Heavenly Father. Rest in Peace Steve!
