Sharon Gerold

January 30, 1959 - September 23, 2023

Sharon E. Gerold, age 64, of New Prague, died unexpectedly as a result of complications from cancer therapy at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis on Saturday, September 23, 2023 with her family at her side. Sharon was born on January 30, 1959 in Springfield, Illinois to Kenneth and Anna (Morrison) Jarrard. She grew up in Pleasant Plains, Illinois and graduated from Pleasant Plains High School. Shortly after high school she followed her sister to Minnesota, where she married and though the marriage would dissolve, it gave her one of her greatest of life’s blessings, her three daughters. Sharon lived for her family and she greeted being a grandmother with the same love and enthusiasm that she had when she embraced motherhood. She loved volleyball, having played it in high school, and now avidly followed her granddaughter at her volleyball games. Throughout her life, Sharon also loved horses and horseback riding and found fulfillment in working with a disabled child in equestrian therapy. She was currently employed as a background investigator for SMSC (Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community). Lung cancer dealt her a blow and she was fighting it with the same determination that she used facing other challenges in life. Her unconditional love and kindness has left a hole in the hearts of her family.

Sharon is survived by her daughters, Amanda Gerold of Minneapolis, Rachel (Jake) Berg of Montgomery, Melissa Gerold of New Prague; grandchildren, Kalyne, Hanna, Nora, & Cooper; siblings, Janet Matrisch of Illinois, Gary (Kathy) Jarrard of Illinois, Kathy Gerold of Minneapolis, Karen Bricker of Illinois; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Jarrard.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

She was my baby sister but we were close for a long time before she moved and got married. Just doesn’t seem like she should be gone. I remember her love of horses and how much fun she always had when doing things. Love the picture. It truly shows her personality. Beautiful sister. Loved her so much.

The best memory I have of Sharon is her riding through the woods, on horse back as Leo read Ickabog Crane. It was a Halloween party at the farm. And of course Labor Day at the cabin. Missing the cabin, memories.

Mom! You took me in when I was 18 and I had no where else to go. You always treated me with love, understanding and compassion. I could always count you when I needed you most. And be myself without judgement. I got to choose my family thanks to you and Amanda, Rachel, Jake, Melissa, kalyne, Hanna, nora and cooper. You were there during my hard times and so many good times. When I needed a hug, or just someone to listen to me, you were there. I’m forever grateful. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love was. You… Read more »

Sherry, my heart actually hurts when I think about this stupid cancer. You were such a caring person and it took you away. I wish I could give you a hug even though I know that it isn’t possible. Sending hugs and kisses from here to heaven for you. Cancer didn’t win. God did and now he is taking care of you. You are so missed here.

Rest in peace my dear cousin. I’ll always remember the good times growing up and going to school together, not to mention our brief time together many years ago when you passed through Chicago.

My condolences to the family.
