Marvin Sticha

November 7, 1950 - July 18, 2025
Marvin D. Sticha, age 74, of Elko New Market, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 18, 2025, with his family at his side after a diagnosis of melanoma cancer just a month ago. Marvin was born on November 7, 1950, in New Prague, to Joseph S. and Dorothy (Tupy) Sticha. He graduated from New Prague High School and served in the US Army Reserve. He met a beautiful young girl at a dance at the Park Ballroom, took his date home, and came back to the dance to get to know LuAnn better! He and LuAnn Flicek were married on November 25, 1972, in Lonsdale. Marvin’s heart was in the crop and dairy farm that he and LuAnn worked and raised their family on. His strong work ethic came out in working the land that he loved.
Marvin belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Tri-Lakes Sportsmen’s Club, enjoying the comradery and socializing that came with the meetings. His happy place was their cabin “up north”, where time on the boat brought many joyful memories. All business and adherence to the efforts needed farming, his playful, nature came out when the grandchildren came on the scene. He had an abundance of patience and always a willingness to have fun and enjoy his time with them. Marvin and LuAnn wintered in Arizona, where 4-wheeling took the place of his boat in Minnesota. These travels gave the couple friendships from all over the country. A good game of cards, particularly Scratch and Svick, rounded out his leisure time activities. On the rare occasions that one could capture Marvin in a picture, the smile in his eyes mirrored the peace in his heart that came with cherished time with his family and friends.
Marvin is survived by his wife, LuAnn; children, Tim (Christine) Sticha of Savannah, GA, Michael Sticha of New Prague, Jeffrey (Debbie Dalsin) Sticha of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Sydney, Ryan, & Allyson; siblings, Dennis of Sticha of New Prague, Monica (Ken) Studnicka of New Prague, Dorothy “Dotty” (Denny) VonBank of New Prague, Norbert Sticha of Montgomery, Jayne (Charlie) Bartusek of Webster, Carrie (Glen) Hoffman of New Prague. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Sticha; brother, Joseph Sticha; sister-in-law, Cathy Sticha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 10 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli with Father John Lapensky officiating. Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home on Tuesday, the 22nd 5-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30-9:30. Burial will occur at a later date but military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard immediately after Mass on the church grounds. Lunch will follow at the KC Hall in New Prague.
