Margie Bastyr

Margie Bastyr, age 77, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at St. Francis Medical Center in Shakopee. Margie was born on July 12, 1938, in Helena Township, Scott County, MN to John V. and Anna J. (Rezac) Bastyr. She was a lifelong resident of New Prague and attended New Prague High School. She married Robert F. Bastyr on August 5, 1989 in New Prague. Margie worked for 26 years at Mala Strana Nursing Home as a nursing assistant, nurturing her caring personality. As an avid animal lover, she loved her life on the farm. She was involved not only with the animals of the farm but also flowers and gardening, anything that took her to the outdoors. In addition, she enjoyed travel, most recently to Hawaii and the Czech Republic.
Margie is survived by her husband, Bob, of New Prague; children, Robert “Bob” (Cindy) Novotny of Balsam lake, WI, Alan Novotny ( Kris Anne Gabbard) of New Prague, Glen Novotny & Tanya of New Prague; grandsons, Ben and Josh Novotny; sisters, Rosemary (Gary) Wakefield of Kersey, CO, Mary Jane (Tom) Luff of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bastyr and Marian Bastyr of New Prague. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney Novotny in infancy; brothers, Richard W., John J., Robert, and Joseph R. (in infancy) Bastyr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 25, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague with Father Dave Barrett officiating. Visitation will take place Sunday from 4 – 8 PM and Monday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at the church cemetery followed by lunch at the Legion Clubroom.
