Lorraine R. Kes

Lorraine R. Kes, age 85, of New Prague, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at St. Gertrudes Health and Rehab Center in Shakopee.  Lorraine was born August 29, 1927 in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota to William F. and Elizabeth A. (Marek) Hertaus. She attended Rice County District School, New Prague High School, and Mankato State College.  Lorraine married Thomas F. Kes on April 23, 1949 in New Prague.  The couple farmed on the family farm in Lonsdale and Lorraine worked as a dietician for 30 years at Mala Strana Health Care Center.  She was a member of the KC Ladies Auxiliary and Catholic Workmen.  She had a passion for cooking and baking, playing cards, gardening, fishing, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be remembered for her homemade chicken noodle soup and kolacky.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Ken (& Rosella) Kes of New Prague, Diane (& Glen) Swanson of Tanto Basin, AZ, Louis (& Elaine) Kes of Shakopee, Bonita Lenzen of Prior Lake, Randy (& Teresa) Kes of New Prague, Darrell (& Kathy) Kes of New Prague, Mark (& Diane) Kes of Belle Plaine; Siblings, Dorothy (& Clarence) Skluzacek of Lonsdale, Francis (& Bella) Hertaus of New Prague, Roman (& Jan) Hertaus of Prior Lake; Sisters-in-law, Diane (& Leonard) Pexa of Heidelberg, Joyce Hertaus of New Prague.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; son, Bernard (in infancy); brothers, William (in childhood), Alvin, and Raymond Hertaus; son-in-law, David Lenzen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 21,  2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church with Fr. Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20 from 4 – 8 PM and Wednesday from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will take place after mass at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers and granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.  Lunch will follow at the KC Hall.
