Jameson John Leonard

August 1, 2022 - March 16, 2023
Jameson John Leonard, age 7 months, died unexpectedly at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Jameson was born, the older brother of twins, prematurely at 32 weeks on August 1, 2022 at Children’s Masonic Hospital in Minneapolis to Gilbert Leonard and Abigail Mackey. He faced incredible odds with a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia. He had open heart surgery on December 7th of 2022 to repair his heart defect and had complications, which required him to need further intervention. He faced these hurdles with undaunting good humor and sweetness, always greeting his caregivers and mommy and daddy with smiles. He was a favorite among the hospital staff with his sweet nature and the fight in his spirit. He was snuggly and sweet and could turn a bad day immediately into the best of days with his smiles. He was finally able to come home just a week ago, his home nurses visiting the morning of his death and giving him a “thumbs up” on his progress. His little life was cut short when his parents discovered just an hour into his nap, that he was not breathing. Efforts to valiantly save him were unsuccessful and Jameson went on to become one of the angels. Though short, his life touched so many and his footprint here on earth will leave a legacy of love and meaning.
Jameson is survived by his loving and dedicated parents, Abigail Mackey & Gilbert Leonard, twin brother Daniel; his grandparents, Kathleen Mackey, Kevin Mackey, & Paul & Maureen Leonard; many other extended relatives; numerous caregivers.
A private celebration of life will be held.
