Inez Kubes

July 21, 1919 - December 22, 2024

Inez M. Kubes, age 105 years, 5 months, and 1 day, died peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Mala Strana Care and Rehabilitation Center. Inez was born on the family farm in Lexington Township on July 21, 1919, to Henry and Elizabeth (Smisek) Holicky. She attended District 75 country school and met her husband through relatives at a dance. She married George G. Kubes on October 7, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center. Inez embraced farm life whole-heartedly, helping with haying and harvesting, and cultivating a large garden. Her needs were simple and the fruits from the garden were served either fresh, canned, or frozen and all meat was farm fresh and her soap handmade. On occasion she worked outside her home, candling eggs for Emil Dvorak, saving every penny she earned.

Inez was independent, humble, and possessed a spirit of kindness and an easygoing nature, never complaining, or asking for any special considerations. She loved ice cream, her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless, and the Price is Right. She had a devotion to the rosary and prayed it daily. She was interviewed and entered in a book of centenarians that was very meaningful to her family. She thoroughly enjoyed celebrating her 105th birthday with energy and full presence! Her sweet smile, and the twinkle in her eye will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Inez is survived by her children, Adeline Cauley of Belle Plaine and Jerry Kubes of Montgomery; grandchildren, Laura (Craig) Westphal of New Prague, Scott (Monica) Kubes of Belle Plaine, Curtis (Ashley) Cauley of Belle Plaine; great-grandchildren, Sarah & Mary Westphal, Marissa & Sam Kubes, Watson & Emilyn Cauley. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, on May 1, 2001; son-in-law, John Jay Cauley in 2013; sister, Helen (Elzear) O’Malley.

A Catholic Funeral Service with a rosary will be held Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with MaryCarol Wolf officiating. Visitation will take place for 2 hours prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.

Inez Kubes was a cousin to my mother, Helen David Holicky. My mom sent letters almost every week to Inez till she passed away in 2011. I started writing Inez Kubes and Adeline a few years back. I have kept all their letters they sent me, and all a lot of fun things from years ago. Sometimes for their birthdays I would send Inez and Adeline each $5.00. Adeline would get lunch or their favorite Chocolate . I also had Birds and Bloom magazines sent to them. Inez was so sweet and kind. Adeline is just like her mom, Inez.… Read more »

Dearest Grandma, I lived across the street from you growing up. Your granddaughter was and is my dear friend. You were the grandma I never had. Always looked out for me and introduced me to new things. We’ve kept in touch till the end. My last good bye and I love you was so hard. But I know you are now in a better place. I will always cherish you. All my love to you grandma Kubes. Love, Bobbi

Inez was my neighbor growing up. I would stand at our fence line to watch her garden and she would teach me. She became my lifelong friend and continued to teach me to the very end. I will miss her and always think of her fondly. My sincere condolences to all her family.
