Harland Solheid

December 18, 1921 – February 24, 2015

Harland Solheid, age 93, of New Prague, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.  Harland was born December 18, 1921 at St. Benedict, Minnesota to Joseph & Barbara (Hoofhauer) Solheid.  He attended St. Benedict Catholic School and then farmed until entering the US Army, where he served during WWII and was part of the Normandy invasion. He was discharged in 1945 and married Cecelia A. Bruzek on May 17, 1947 in New Prague.  Harland was a grain miller for International Multifoods for 42 years.  He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Pheasants Forever, Catholic Aid, and Catholic Workman.  He was very supportive of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and donated an octave of bells for the St. Wenceslaus Bell Choir.  Harland was a lifetime gardener, enjoyed fishing and hunting, woodworking, playing cards, and dancing.  More recently he became an avid bingo player and artist.

Harland is survived by his children, Allen (& Pat) Solheid of New Prague, Pat Boeckman of Shakopee, Michael Solheid of Prior Lake, Jim (& Pat) Solheid of Spicer; brothers, Eugene Solheid of Lake City, Gerald “Oscar” (& Ardelle) Solheid of New Prague; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia on November 24, 2005; his parents; and a brother, Eugene in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday, March 8th from 4 – 8 PM and Monday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.  Lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom in New Prague.
