Geraldine Strandberg

Geraldine C Strandberg, age 91, died peacefully at Mala Strana in New Prague on Friday, February 24, 2023.
Geraldine was born on November 10, 1931, in Minneapolis, MN to Stanley and Rose (Syperski) Canton. She grew up with a large extended family of 22 aunts and uncles. She had one brother, Leroy. She was very close to her cousins, Delores Mann and her uncle Peter Syperski, who were all born within 30 days of each other.
Geraldine held many jobs throughout her life working at a chicken farm where she met her husband and married in 1950 to Ernest H. Strandberg (divorced 1992). Together they raised six children which kept her busy for the next several years. She worked many retail and manufacturing jobs. She once owned a ceramic business, provided classes for individuals in the community. Geraldine as a pastor’s wife beside her husband, volunteered and performed secretarial duties at the following churches: Pleasant Prairie, MN, The Congregational Church of Granada, MN UCC, St. John’s Lutheran, Barnesville, MN, and United Protestant Church UCC, Morgan Park, MN. Her last position held prior to full retirement was as a Census Taker for the government.
Geraldine had many hobbies and interests, which included playing Bridge, golfing, fishing, genealogy research, and Bingo with many friends in Cambridge including Tom Dahlberg who was her partner in crime when it came to Bingo. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for family and friends.
Geraldine was fiercely independent and proud to be able to own her own home in Gary, MN and maintain her independence until she moved into Mala Stana in August 2022. Geraldine was also in love with her faithful companion, Keiko her cat.
Geraldine is survived by children, Ernest (Brenda) Strandberg, Jr. of Walker, MN, Dianne Strandberg of Youngsville, LA, Dawn (Tim) Brule of Excelsior, MN, Debra (Dave) Tomlinson of New, Prague, MN, and Lisa (Blake) Roepke of Washta, IA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-children and her ex-husband Ernest Strandberg of Cloquet, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Rose Canton, her brother Leroy and Sister-in-law Karen Canton, son Alan Strandberg, 2 grandsons Travis and Christopher: 1 granddaughter Teri.
