George Loebner
June 20, 1934 – February 11, 2015
George Loebner, age 80, of New Prague, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at Traditions of Montgomery. George was born June 20, 1934 in Eau Claire, WI to Walter & Margaret (Wolbers) Loebner. He grew up in Mankato, graduating from Loyola Catholic High School. He entered the Army National Guard while in high school and married Barbara D. Smith on May 12, 1956 in Minneapolis, MN. The couple lived in Mankato when they were first married, moving to Minneapolis in 1960. They moved to New Prague in 1994 when they retired. George worked as a pipefitter/locator for Minnegasco Company for over 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout, member and former representative for the Pipefitters Union, a confirmation mentor for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and a cook for the Hoy Trinity LOGOS program. George was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the couple’s cabin on Lake Mille Lacs. In addition, he was a bowler and loved to travel with his wife, visiting all the states of the US, China, and much of Canada.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara of New Prague; daughters, Laurie (& Steve) Maros of Kilkenny, Linda Nytes (& Mark Sandberg) of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Melissa (& Jim) Frederickson & Chris Nytes; great-grandchildren, Brianna Nytes, Olivia & Evan Frederickson, Liam Maros; sister, Marge (& Bill) Olson of Mankato; brothers, Bob (& Barb) Loebner of Mankato, John (& Sandra) Loebner of Bloomington; best friend, Ray (& Nancy) Hausladen. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Claire Bieraugel & Jean Jensen; brother, Fred Loebner.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague with Pastor Erick Thompson officiating. Visitation will occur at church 2 hours prior to service from 1 – 3 PM. Military honors will be conducted at church after the service. Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.
