David Skluzacek

March 28, 1966 - February 20, 2024

David Joseph Skluzacek, age 57, of New Prague, died at home peacefully, with his family at his side on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. David was born in St. Paul, MN on March 28, 1966, and welcomed home by Joe and Eileen (Solheid) Skluzacek. Dave graduated from New Prague High School, class of 1984 where he participated in sports. After high school Dave attended Faribault Vocational Technical College and then started his own cabinet making business. Dave was an incredibly talented cabinet maker. He had a gift for designing beautiful custom creations. He would take his own unique ideas or those of his customers and turn them into beautiful works of art.

Dave loved to play cards, go camping, listen to 80”s music and spend time with his family and friends. In recent years he started taking his family on vacations – enjoying experiences and making memories in lieu of giving gifts.

One of Dave’s greatest joys in life was being Papa to Mason David – his name’s sake. Mason and Amanda lived with Dave for the past seven years. Mason and Papa were best buddies. They loved to go to Dave’s shop, eat at Subway, get a donut at the bakery, build Legos, throw the baseball, and…. when Mason wanted a lemonade stand it was not your ordinary cardboard or crate stand; but a Dave Skluzacek creation!

Dave is survived by his son, Josh Skluzacek (Jorden Mayo); daughter, Amanda (Matthew) Smith; grandson, Mason; parents, Joseph & Eileen Skluzacek; sisters, Nancy (Greg) Moulton & Laura Skluzacek; niece, Kate; nephew, JD.

The family would like to express its sincerest appreciation to the staff and caregivers from Minnesota Hospice who provided Dave and his family with outstanding care and love during these past few weeks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Joseph Gifford officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-7 pm and Monday morning from 7:30-9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.

There will also be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 25th at Next Chapter Winery at 6:00 PM.

Best memory of Dave is when he went skydiving with my cousins and I and Chris Jabs. He was so calm and I was freakin scared! Best day ever!

I will always remember Dave at this big red barn where we were camping. They had a band or music playing that night there as an activity. He was one of the happiest guys, I have ever met. If I hear his name, I just am filled with that memory. The kind of guy who would ask a girl on the sidelines to dance, just to make her night, or to make her smile. He had a jovial spirit. A terrific smile, and a kind heart. Reading about him and his grandson’s relationship is a true legacy. May you hold… Read more »
