Darwin Sasse

August 6, 1942 – April 24, 2015

Darwin Sasse, age 72, of New Prague, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at Mala Strana Health Care Center, surrounded by his family.  Darwin was born in Blue Earth, MN on August 6, 1942, to Ernest F. & Irene (Haase) Sasse.  He  was raised in the Frost/Blue Earth area and attended  Frost Public Schools.  He went on to graduate from Mankato State University, where he met his future wife, Sandra K. Masters.  The couple married on June 11, 1965, in Mankato and moved to Albert City, IA, where Darwin’s first teaching job took place.  They moved then to New Prague, where he would be an Industrial Arts/Science teacher for 35 years. Darwin was very actively involved in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the council and property committees in the past, actively involved with Le Sueur County Pioneer Power, Le Sueur County 4-H, Sand Creek Riders Saddle Club, and Eidsvold Driving Society.  He always had active woodworking projects, including wrist watch clocks, in his spare time and an interest in graphic and printed arts.  Darwin was passionate about horseback riding, trail and wagon rides, and reading westerns.  Darwin was a gentle soul and most notedly, always a teacher who cared about his students, both  past and present.  He was dedicated to his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s events.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Sandy Sasse, of New Prague; daughters, Jennifer (& Steve) Jameson of St. Cloud, Becky (& Rick) Skluzacek of Eagan, Angie Sasse of Apple Valley; brothers, Danny (& Candy) Sasse of Blue Earth, Duane (& Lavonne) Sasse of Rochester; sister, Diane (& Rakki) Peterson of Butterfield; 7 grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Irene (Haase) Sasse; brother, Drew Sasse; infant sister, Dawn Sasse.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Erick Thompson and Reverend Chuck Anderson officiating.  Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home and Thursday from 10 – 11 AM at church.  Interment will occur at Czech National Cemetery in New Prague with lunch following at the church social hall.
