Allen W. Scharf

August 19, 1940 - June 17, 2019

Allen W. Scharf, age 78, of New Prague, died peacefully, with his wife at his side, on Monday, June 17, 2019 at The Lodge on Natchez Ave.  Al was born on August 19, 1940 in New Prague to Wilmer and Elizabeth Ann (Davis) Scharf.  He attended New Prague High School and then began his lifelong work of over-the-road trucking.  For a few years, he drove for others before owning his own company, A & R Trucking for over 50 years.  In those 50 years, he also owned multiple car wash businesses.  Al married Patricia Turek Kubes on August 19, 1989 in New Prague.  He was a lifelong member of the Caribou Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and trap shooting.  In his younger years he also enjoyed motorcycle riding.  Sports were a big part of his life; his children benefitted from his coaching of their Little League teams and he sponsored many softball teams.  He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Music also filled his life; he loved country western music and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.


Al is survived by his wife, Pat of New Prague; children, Tammy Scharf, Brad (Denise) Scharf, Jill Tietz (Leroy Wagner), Paul (Lisa) Scharf, Monique (Geoff) Richardson, Steve (Candy) Scharf; Pat’s children, Mary (Tom) Czech, Mark (Bridget) Kubes, Cathy (Roger) Novak, Ken (Brenda) Kubes, Ann (Larry) Hoffman, Barb Haecherl, Margaret (Brian) Bartyzal, Dan Kubes; 12 grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Colleen (Manley) Mueller, Mary Parker, Patrice (Mike) Elsenpeter, Peg (Scott) Terwilliger.  He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Bea Scharf; step-son, Dave Kubes; brother-in-law, Pete Parker.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Deacon Bob Wagner officiating.  Visitation will take place on the 28th from 3 – 7 PM prior to service.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery,
