Sylvia Hill

Sylvia H. Hill, age 79, of New Prague, died peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital Mankato on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Sylvia was born on December 27, 1943 on the family farm in Cedar Lake Township to Theodore B. and Helen M. (Stejskal) Cervenka. She attended St. Patrick country school and was a 1961 graduate of New Prague High School. Immediately after high school, Sylvia entered the work force while raising her two sons. She co-owned and operated St. Patrick Dining and Liquor from 1974-85 and then spent the rest of her career in clerical and secretarial work. Sylvia’s faith was important to her and she was active at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and a talented musician, noted for playing the piano, the button accordion, and even dabbled a bit with the guitar. She enjoyed singing and especially Czech songs. Her family was her greatest priority and brought her immense joy. Her life was centered around her sons and grandchildren.

Sylvia is survived by her two sons, Tom and Jim Hill; grandchildren, Connor, Ted, & Helen; sister, Evie (Dick) Mushitz of Elko; sister-in-law, Shirley Cervenka of Detroit Lakes. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, Ben, and Dan Cervenka.

A Funeral Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Michael Miller officiating. The service will be held in the middle of the visitation, which will go from 4-7 pm. Burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
