Shirley Kohout

February 10, 1941 - July 8, 2021

Shirley M. Kohout, age 80, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side at her home on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Shirley was born on February 10, 1941 in New Prague to Fred and Marcella (Svobodny) Witt. She graduated from New Prague High School and went to work at Queen of Peace Hospital. She married the love of her life, her neighborhood sweetheart, Martin J. “Marty” Kohout on February 17, 1962 at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. Shirley was a beloved bus driver for New Prague Schools and also worked at Don’s Red Owl and Mystic Lake. Shirley was a spitfire, organizing her affairs and taking meticulous care of her yard. She enjoyed bowling, softball, and fishing and loved going to the casino. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Shirley is survived by her children, Deb Gillard (Larry Schoenbauer) of New Prague, Thomas (Tara) Kohout of New Prague; grandchildren, Matthew (Jayda Badger) Gillard, Andy (Kristy) Gillard, Megan Denzer, Kevin (Nicole) Gillard, Mike Gillard, Nicole Jeanes, Tiffany Kohout; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jackson, Nicholas, Madison, Greyson, Everly, Easton, Emerson, Kylee, Teddy, Rylie, Navaeh, Lee Rye; siblings, Helen (Jack) McGovern of Duluth, Karen Witt of Las Vegas, Rick (Patti Ann) Witt of Lakeville; best friend’s daughter, LeeAnn Ruehling; many nieces & Nephews and their families. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Marty, on December 26, 2010; parents.

A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.

Dear Kohout Family

May you find comfort and peace in the memories you find dear. You are in our thoughts and prayers. . We have fond memories of Shirley when we had our food truck at Dozinkey Days. She would spend time with us everyday. Thinking of you Helen and Jack, Karen, and Rick a nd Patti Ann.
