Ruth Ann Doherty

May 15, 1923 - July 24, 2018

Ruth Ann Doherty, age 95, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Ruth Ann was born on May 15, 1923 in Morgan, Minnesota to Albert C. and Ursula (Braunger) Fischer. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and graduated from Morgan High School before going on to beauty school. She opened her own salon, Ruth Ann’s, in Morgan, married Elmer M. Doherty on January 13, 1945 in Morgan, and remained in Morgan while her husband served in WWII. After Elmer completed his military service, the couple moved to New Prague, where Dr. Elmer Doherty opened his medical practice and the couple raised their family and spent the remainder of their lives. Ruth Ann was a member of St. Wenceslaus CCW, the KC Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Queen of Peace Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop and belonged to a Bridge Club with the same group of friends for close to 50 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved flowers and gardening. Her greatest joy in life came from being a mom and spending time with her precious children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ruth Ann exuded kindness and always had a ready smile.

 

Ruth Ann is survived by her beloved children, Tim (Sue) Doherty of Lakeville, Terry (Ann) Doherty of Richfield, Patrice (Phil) Schaus of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Scott (Brandie) Doherty, Jeff (Sherri) Doherty, Meghan (Chris) Chappuis, John (Margaret) Schaus, Erin (Joe) Dixson, Frances Doherty; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Fischer of Olivia, Clair (Gwenn) Fischer of Morgan; sister, Alice Steffl of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Tom Doherty of Fairmont. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Elmer Doherty on September 28, 2006; parents; brother, Urban Fischer.

 

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to Mass at church starting at 9:00 AM.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.

Tim, Sue, and family
So sorry to hear of Ruth’S passing. She was a kind and beautiful lady. I loved visiting with her at family functions.
She will be missed.
