Ronald L. Giesen

January 14, 1959 - November 1, 2018

Ronald L. Giesen, age 59, of New Prague, died suddenly with his family at his side on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System – St. Mary’s Hospital Campus in Rochester.  Ron was born the ninth of eleven children on January 14, 1959 in New Prague to William F. and Helen M. (Maguire) Giesen.  He was raised in the Union Hill area, graduated from New Prague High School, and went on to attend NEI College of Technology.  Ron started with MVE and continued on when it became Chart Industry.  He had just celebrated his 40thyear with the company and currently served as Senior Service Technician-Microbulk Mobiles & Meters. He was also a proud and dedicated public servant for almost 30 years as an EMT with the New Prague Ambulance.

Ron was a member of St. John’s Church Choir.  He was very active in youth sports and was a wonderful mentor to countless young people in coaching baseball, hockey, and basketball.  His love of sports saw him playing Union Hill baseball his entire life, most recently with the Union Hill Pitbulls.  He enjoyed all Minnesota sports teams but the Gophers held the number one spot in that category!  The greatest joy in his life, however, came from his children and grandchildren; he was so proud of all their accomplishments and activities and could easily have been given the grandpa of the year award!

Ron is survived by his fiancé, Debe Bohnsack of New Prague; children, Brent (Lydia) Giesen of Duluth, Eric Giesen & fiancé, Krysten Heaslip of Waconia, Madison Giesen of New Prague; step-children, Jessica Bohnsack (Bryan) of Mineral Point, WI, Ashlee (David) Bernau of Fountain, MN, Brittany (Brett) Johnson of New Market Elko; grandchildren, Bryden, Rylie, Brianna, Reid, Addison, Miles, Carter, Trevor, Devin; siblings, Joan (Larry) Kitlen of Temple, TX, William (Noreen) Giesen of New Prague, Edward (Linda) Giesen of Shakopee, Gary (Sonie) Giesen of Lagrangeville, NY, Dolores (Kenny) Kalina of Le Center, Kevin (Patty) Giesen of New Prague, Andrea Hall of Springfield, MO, Daniel (Deneen) Giesen of Mohnton, PA, Leo (Jodi) Giesen of New Prague, Helen (Skip) Hawn of San Antonio, TX.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Ernie Hall.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Eulogies will be delivered at church at 9:45.  Visitation will take place Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:15 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. John’s Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.

Having just learned today of Ron’s passing I was shocked and deeply saddened. My deepest condolences go out to Debe, Ron’s entire family and his close friends and coworkers. My connection with Ron was as a fellow member of a men’s support group where we shared in fellowship, friendship and support for one another. We shared in our struggles, in our successes, in our joys and our sorrows. During metings Ron had great insights, supportive comments and a witty sense of humor to lighten the mood. We often shared about events and activities from work and family where I would… Read more »

So sorry for your loss. Not only was Ron my boss for 5 years but we became friends also. I truly met my match when talking about sports. We had some great conversations and we bantered back and forth when talking about our teams. Although I did not meet any of Ron’s family I believed I knew you all because he always talked about family. I am sorry that I cannot be there for the funeral but when I can get back there I will definitely come visit you all. Rest in peace my friend

My deepest sympathy to Ron’s entire family. Ron was an inspiration to many and was always willing to go above and beyond to make sure he was satisfying the needs of a customer or a friend. His contagious smile and laugh would light up the room and get everyone engaged. Ron will be missed by all but he has left an everlasting mark in so many lives, mine included.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ron’s family and friends. I met Ron about 19 years ago when my husband began as an intern at Chart. It was always my favorite to see him during Dozinky Days and the Chart Christmas parties. He was a great man!

I am at a complete loss of how to express my condolences for your loss. I have known Ron the whole time (16 yrs) that I’ve been with Chart and I worked with him off and on for many of those years. We worked directly together for 3 years and were only one cube apart during that time and I must admit that was probably the the funnest time I’ve ever spent working so closely to someone in my entire career anywhere. We shared a common sense of humor that left us frequently peeing in our pants laughing but I’m… Read more »
