Mary Ann Kucera

Mary Ann Kucera, age 84, of New Prague, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Mala Strana Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mary Ann was born on October 31, 1937 in New Prague to Frank J. and Anna A. (Lukes) Kuzelka. A lifelong resident of New Prague, she graduated from New Prague High School and married her devoted partner and sweetheart, Francis C. “Fritz” Kucera on September 14, 1957 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Mary Ann had many jobs throughout her life but most of her career outside the home was spent as a proofreader for Suel Printing/New Prague Times.

Mary Ann’s proofreading skills translated into a love of reading in her private life. She was an avid reader and had a collection of every Nora Roberts book in print! She also enjoyed garage sales and collecting antiques. Mary Ann was feisty and meticulous but had a gentle nature and loved to tease and joke. Despite the fact of living in the age before the internet, Mary Ann’s fashion sense was legendary; she gleaned her expertise from magazines and reading and always appeared in the latest of fashion. She enjoyed going out to eat, her particular favorite being Applebee’s. She lived for her grandchildren and showered them with the smile that lit up her face and the twinkle that graced her eyes. Her always positive nature will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, Francis “Fritz” Kucera of New Prague; daughters, Jean Anne (Doug) Schuur of Rogers, Jennifer (Scott) Neff of Auburndale, FL; grandchildren, Jordan & Natalie Neff also of Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Kristin; brothers, George & Francis Kuzelka; sister, Margaret Ogard.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 12:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Eugene Theisen officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 until the 12:30 service. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
