February 27, 1934 - October 22, 2024
Martha N. Carr, age 90, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side at Praha Village in New Prague, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Martha was born on February 27, 1934, in Ivanhoe, MN, to Andrew and Mary (Ochocki) Mihm. She was a 1951 graduate of Ivanhoe High School and married Darwin F. Carr a year later on November 18, 1952. They made their home in New Prague. Martha’s baking skills were quickly discovered and appreciated; she worked for a short time at the New Prague Hotel and provided baked goods for the local bakery. As if her family of eight children were not busy enough, Martha also provided daycare for neighboring children for many years. She epitomized gentleness, kindness, and humility and had the patience to manage all with apparent ease. Martha was a mother to so many and the center of life for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Martha’s work ethic was beyond compare and her massive gardens produced abundant vegetables and flowers. She would often provide flowers for the local flower shop and her kitchen was in constant use during canning season with the fruits of her gardens providing canned goods for her own use and also many members of the New Prague community. Martha’s love of gardening was life-long and she was growing tomatoes even for the community at Praha Village when she became a resident there! Her sweet smile and love of music and songfests made her a favorite at Praha and she will be sorely missed. If she had any spare time after all her canning and gardening, she enjoyed crocheting.
Martha is survived by her children, Bernadeane Carr, Thomas Carr, Deborah Schultz, Constance Carr, Gregory Carr, Paul (Susan) Carr, Marjorie Roettger, Rosemary Carr; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Zita Marczak and Kathleen (Dennis) Shisler. She is preceded in death by her husband, Darwin, on July 15, 2009; son-in-law, David Schultz on August 29, 2019; 3 brothers; 3 sisters.
A Catholic Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM at St. Patrick of Cedar Lake Church in rural Jordan with Father Michael Miller officiating. Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home Friday afternoon from 1:00 - 3:15. Lunch will follow the service in the church social hall. Private family burial will take place in Ivanhoe, MN Saturday afternoon.
My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother, Connie and families!! Prayers and Hugs
Aunt Martha was a beautiful soul with a quick wit and wonderful laughter. To my cousins, be sure to tell as many stories about your mama as you can. These memories will help you see through this difficult time — as you remember a life that was well-lived and greatly loved. Heaven got a good one!
Our deepest sympathy to Martha’s family. We knew Martha as a member of St. Patrick church as well as our daughter in law’s grandma. She will be missed and remembered fondly. Tim & LuVerne Verhoeven
