Margaret M. Sticha

September 4, 1947 - February 16, 2019

Margaret M. Sticha, age 71, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  Margaret was born on September 4, 1947, in Shakopee to Jerome A. and Bernice A. (Wolf) Sand.  She attended St. Mary’s Purification Grade School in Marystown and was a 1965 graduate of Guardian Angels High School. Prior to her marriage to William R. Sticha on October 12, 1968 at St. Mary’s Purification Church in Marystown, Margaret worked for Scott County Welfare.  Bill & Margaret established their home in New Prague and Margaret went to work at the New Prague School District as a secretary.  She took a 12-year period away from the school district while raising her children, during which time she operated a daycare in her home. She returned to the school district in 1983 and remained there until retiring in 2013.  While Bill was alive, Margaret enjoyed fishing with him.  She was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing cards with her card club. After retirement, Margaret stayed connected with her school colleagues with a monthly date for lunch.  Margaret’s greatest joy came in following her grandchildren in their activities and spending precious time with them.

Margaret is survived by her children & grandchildren, Bob (Jackie) Sticha, Josie, Nick, & Grace of Robbinsdale, Anne (Todd) Anderson, Emma & Josh of New Prague, Andy Sticha, Molly, Will, & Lauren of New Prague, Marty (Melissa) Sticha, Paxton & Mason of New Prague, Mary (Jeff) Dean, Julia of Inver Grove Heights; siblings, Jerry (Kris) Sand of Minnetonka, Mike (Sue) Sand of Cannon Falls, Rosemarie (Gary) Lewis of Northfield, Tom (Lori) Sand of Lakeville, Paul (Jodi) Sand of West St. Paul.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on January 18, 2009 and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church.  The eulogy will be delivered at church at 9:45.  Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30 – 9:15 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the KC Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to New Prague Area Education Foundation.

Please accept my sympathy. I am one of many first cousins, same age. How difficult it must be for all who were close to her.

Charles & Darlene Mahowald( Maiden Name Lenzmeier)

We extend our deepest sympathy to your family on the passing of Margaret. May the Lord give you peace and strength to see you through this trying time. We will keep her soul and your family in our prayers. I am a cousin of Margaret’s. My Mother was Margaret’s Dads sister, Caroline. Haven’t been in contact with Margaret, probably since the passing of her Mother. May the Lord bless you all.

I was saddened when I heard the news of Margaret’s passing. What a character! I tried to give Margaret such a hard time at school, but she’d give it right back. She had a great laugh and always an interesting story to share. I remember her at the attendance window every morning at school. I’m sure she heard all kinds of excuses from the students as to why they were late. Even though she had to be tough and follow the rules, she genuinely cared about the kids and their welfare. She also loved her family and was so proud… Read more »

So very, very sad to hear about Margaret. She was an amazingly strong person. We used to have so much fun working together at the District Office. She was always willing to help in any way needed and she was a wonderful cook and baker. I have so many recipes from her that she shared. We both retired on the same day and we always said we would go dancing out the school doors together and we sure did – we danced the polka saying good bye to work and hello to retirement. I just wish she could have enjoyed… Read more »

Margaret and I had so much fun and laughs while working together at the New Prague Schools. She was always willing to help out in any way needed and loved sharing her recipes. She was a great cook and baker. I have so many recipes with her name on them. We always said we would retire going out the school doors dancing together and that’s exactly what we did as they played music for us. She called me two weeks ago and we had such a good conversation. She sounded so well and happy. I just can’t believe she has… Read more »

My deepest sympathy to each of you on the loss of your beloved mom and grandmother. I was fortunate to work with Margaret at New Prague High School for 9 years. She made my job enjoyable with her wit, professional integrity, a strong work ethic, and a genuine
care for helping others. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend her funeral, but I along with my family send our prayers to each of you for God’s comfort and peace. May her memory be eternal.

Man, she had a wicked sense of humor.
Will miss hearing her jokes at work!
Love you Mar,

Candy Schulte Kadrlik

So so sorry for your loss. She was an amazing lady!! She will be forever in my heart!!

Anne and Todd, Marty and Melissa, and all the family, we are so sorry for your loss. Her passing leaves a large emptyness within the community. Known and loved by generations of NPHS grads and faculty, she often was the face of the school as so many knew it. I worked with her in the school office when I was a student, and loved working with her. She had a marvelous sense of humor that came to light so often in her dealings with the students….Rest in Peace Margaret.

Anne, I remember your mom the most as a New Prague High School secretary. She was elite at her job. You & your family will be in my thoughts, as I too know how incredibly difficult it is to lose a parent that you were close to.
