Margaret Bartusek

July 16, 1938 - May 18, 2020

Margaret A. Bartusek, age 81, of Veseli, died suddenly after a short illness on Monday, May 18, 2020 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.  Margaret was born on July 16, 1938 in New Prague to Edward F. and Agnes A. (Valek) Bastyr.  She attended St. Wenceslaus Parochial School and graduated from New Prague High School.  She married the love of her life, Richard M. Bartusek on April 19, 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague.  Primarily a loving mother and a dedicated farm wife, Margaret also worked as a bookkeeper for Minnesota Valley Breeders Association and later as a waitress at Wild Outdoors.  She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the New Prague Czech Concertina Club.  A woman of faith, her church was important to her and she was involved with the Altar Society and the Most Holy Trinity choir.  Margaret was very much a people person; she had a happy heart and a gentle caring soul, always putting others above herself.  She enjoyed dances and polka music and especially enjoyed traveling to band gigs with her son, Jim.  Travel was a major love of hers and she saw many European countries, Canada, Alaska & Hawaii in addition to many of the lower 48 states.  Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and they will miss her baking, cooking, gardens and the hugs and smiles for which she was famous.

Margaret is survived by her children, Jim (Carla) Bartusek of Northfield, Rick (Cathy) Bartusek of Webster, Bruce (Jodi) Bartusek of Webster, Michelle (Mike) Leahy of Jordan; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Edward (Mary Alice) Bastyr of Prior Lake, Gerald (Shirley Bastyr of Jordan, Karen (Jerome) Zweber of Beaverton, OR, Edith (Glenn) Svoboda of Prior Lake, Gloria (Leo) Jacques of Jordan, Ronald Bastyr of Jordan.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard on October 19, 1999; her parents.

Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 22, 2020 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Veseli followed by burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Veseli.

Bruce and family – your Mom was a very special lady. I can’t remember when or where I met her, maybe at one of Fritz’s famous Halloween parties. It was the strangest thing but it seemed that wherever I would go grocery shopping, be it Faribault, Northfield, Prior Lake or wherever I would see her and we’d chit chat for a few minutes. I saw her in Walgreen’s in New Prague at one point and we laughed that neither one of us were grocery shopping. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers and hope that you will… Read more »

Dear Jim, We send our love, prayers and sympathy on the death of your Mother Margaret. I am sure God provided a lovely dwelling for her in heaven. Your great, great, grandmother Mayme Valek was my mother’s (Ludmilla) sister and very much loved. My Dad John also had wonderful conversations with her when both were at the Malna Nursing Home in New Prague. She, like your Mother, died suddenly at the Nursing Home. Mayme was our family’s godmother and took us to Immaculate Church in Lonsdale for baptism. (We were five girls (Dolores, Ruth, Edith, Roseanne & Alice) and one… Read more »

To Margaret’s children: Margaret and I were classmates and very good friends in high school–the Prom, double dating, and after graduation working at MVBA in New Prague. She, Phyllis Kallal, and I have stayed in touch for the last several years, meeting for lunch at various places in the spring and again in the fall of the year. I spoke with Margaret about a week and a half ago; I can’t believe she is gone. She always ended our phone calls with “I love you.” Margaret is the 28th member of our Class of ’56 to pass away. Take care… Read more »

Bastyr siblings, you have my sympathy. I did not know your sister personally but she worked with my mom, Loretta many years ago at Minnesota Valley Breeders Association. She sounded like a wonderful person just like you all.
