Mahlon J. Pikal
March 20, 1930 - April 30, 2018
Mahlon J. Pikal, age 88, of Montgomery, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on Monday, April 30, 2018. He was born on March 20, 1930, in New Prague to James J. and Emma (Trcka) Pikal. Born and raised in the New Prague area, Mahlon attended Le Sueur County District School and graduated from New Prague High School. He married Rose L. Ziskovsky on September 18, 1951 in Veseli and Mahlon spent his life dedicated to his passion for farming. He was a member of the NFO and was very involved in AMPI and the local livestock association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Twin lakes Sportsmen Club. In his early years, Mahlon enjoyed bowling. Throughout his life, he enjoyed old-time music, listening to KCHK and the Minnesota Twins, sometimes both at the same time! He loved fishing and the highlight of his year was the annual fishing trip to Alexandria with his sons and grandsons, a tradition that has continued for 23 years. The biggest priority in his life was spending time with his family and supporting his kids in every way possible; he was always the last one at the campfire.
Mahlon is survived by his six children, Gary (Kathy) Pikal of New Prague, Cheryl (Chuck) Perlock of River Falls, WI, Roger (Cheryl) Pikal of Montgomery, Kathy Pikal (Suzanne Litsheim) of Montgomery, Tom (Marilyn) Pikal of Winthrop, Karen Sleva (Matt Lichty) of Montgomery; close personal friend, Pat Murphy; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose, on July 22, 2017; son-in-law, David Sleva; parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton and Father Michael Miller officiating. Visitation will take place Friday from 4-8 PM and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Minnesota Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
