Laurie A. Tolzmann

December 30, 1962 - February 1, 2020

Laurie A.  Tolzmann, age 57, of New Prague, died peacefully after a 5-year battle with cancer on Saturday, February 1, 2020.  Laurie was born on December 30, 1962 in Owatonna, MN to David and Laurel (Kavitz) Bathel.  She graduated from Prior Lake High School and attended Normandale Community College.  She worked as an administrative assistant for the tribal government for 26 years..  Laurie married the love of her life, Jeffrey B. Laurie is survived by her loving husband, Jeff of New Prague; Children, Laura (Anthony) Atchison of Lonsdale, MN, Lucas Shipman of Baudette, MN, Kristina Tolzmann of Jacksonville, FL; Grandchildren, Holden, Wessen, Silace, Hunter, Victor, Zoey; Father, David Bathel of Baudette, MN; Brother, David Bathel of Baudette, MN; Sister, Wendy (Doug) Holmstrom of Grantsburg, WI.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Laurel Bathel.

We were very fortunate to have met Laurie and Jeff through mutual friends. Although we were only acquaintances Laurie treated us as if we had been friends forever. It sounds as though she and Jeff had many an adventure in their time together. She left way to soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.

To Laurie’s family. First of all, our sincere condolences to your family. I met Laurie back in 1992 as she started working for the tribe. She was a great executive assistant and gatekeeper for the Chairman. Laurie was deeply concerned with the health and welfare of many community members over the years. Spending time with the young adults, sharing information with them and guiding them within the Community. Laurie poured her heart and soul into her work. She was part of a thriving community. Her biggest smiles at work always came when someone stopped and she could hold a new… Read more »
