Justin J. Deutsch

January 2, 1921 - December 7, 2020

Justin J. Deutsch, age 99, died peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living.  Less than a month shy of his 100th birthday, Justin was born on January 2, 1921 in Helena Township to Michael and Mary (Unger) Deutsch.  He graduated from New Prague High School and met and married the woman of his dreams, Rita Bisek, when he was in his 40’s.  They married on May 19, 1962 in New Prague.  Tragedy would befall them at the death of their son, Billie, in childhood and Justin was widowed just 20 years later, with Rita’s death in 1982.  Justin loved all things mechanical and worked many jobs as a mechanic/welder, including driving truck in North Dakota hauling fuel, working for the railroad, driving truck for Kratchovil Ready-Mix, and finally for Zahratka Implement in Montgomery.  He finished out his careen by driving bus and working at the bus garage for the New Prague School District.  Justin delighted in tinkering!  He had “many irons in the fire” and always had a project going, sometimes more than one, when he was missing a part to complete the current project.  A ready conversationalist, he loved people and enjoyed sharing his “current project” with anyone willing to listen.  He was a mentor to nephews interested in discovering the workings of machines.  He had a sunny disposition and the glint in his eye and his ready smile will be missed by so many, including his caretakers at Mala Strana.

Justin is survived by his son, David (Regina) Deutsch of New Prague; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hannah, and Jake Deutsch; sister-in-law, Roz Deutsch of CA; many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita on April 26, 1982; parents; brothers, Stanley, Norbert, Mike, and Robert; sister, Martha Phillips.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.   Masks and social distancing are required at the cemetery.
