Jim Miller

April 11, 1943 - January 6, 2025
James (Jim) F. Miller, 81, of New Prague, went home to Jesus on January 6, 2025. As Jim is welcomed into heaven, his loved ones will be reminded of how sweetly they were welcomed into his home with a giant smile, a warm hug that said I love you and his famous greeting “Welcome to Cedar Lake”.
Jim grew up in the church as his dad, Reverend John Miller, served faithfully around Minnesota. He joined the Air Force and while deployed, he taught English to Thai students. He loved teaching/training whether it was with his employees at Twin City Tire & Tires Express or showing his children and grandchildren how to make memories through hours of lake fun, camping and traveling. Jim’s dream of living on a lake came true. Jim will be remembered for his circle prayers, love of music, gentle nature, kind-hearted spirit and a creative and brilliant mind that never stopped “inventing”.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Julie, and their daughter, Laura (Zac); Dianne, the mother of their children, Julie (Kurt), Jill (Mike), Jason, Jed, and Jennifer (JT); 19 grandchildren and spouses; 18 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister, Joanie; brother, Jack (Virginia); nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Stonebridge Church (1301 County Rd 42 E, Burnsville). Visitation will take place at church 1 hour prior to service, starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will occur at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Jim and I were good friends during our school days in Montevideo. We played in the same rock n roll band, often double dated in one of his many cars and worked together on engine projects. Some 35 years later, we were both involved in the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce where I was fortunate to present Jim with the “small business person of the year” award. Rest in peace my friend.
Julie and family so very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. His kind heart and easy going personality were always appreciated when we saw him in the neighborhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Jim has been a valued part of our life for many years. Our relationship with him has produced many treasured memories for years to come…We are especially grateful for the five J’s he fathered who call us “uncle” and “aunt”; for they have maintained our bond….. Jim’s success in business was always a great source of pride and admiration. Julie and Laura, we treasure the memory your trip to Colorado Springs some years ago when you parked your RV at the camp on the Air Force Academy. It was wonderful re-connection, including a pleasant visit and evening meal in our… Read more »
Jason and family – My deepest sympathy to you and all those who love Jim. I always enjoyed my time visiting with him and Julie. As much pain as he was in, he was always positive and had such a warm spirit. Love that he is free of pain and with Jesus. Wishing you healing and comfort during this time.
To the Miller Family ~ We’re deeply saddened to hear the news of Jim’s death. Praying the wonderful memories of your beloved husband/father/grandfather outweigh the sadness you feel during this time of loss. Jim had a huge heart ~ he loved others deeply, and he’ll be missed tremendously.
Love the picture. Really depicts his warmth!!
