Helen Peters

July 9, 1939 - February 26, 2025
Helen M. Peters, age 85, of New Prague, died unexpectedly at her home after a brief illness, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Helen was born on July 9, 1939, in New Prague, to Jake and Marcella (Hinderscheid) Giesen. She attended elementary school in Union Hill and graduated from New Prague High School. She met and fell in love with a dashing young man at a wedding dance and she and Richard Peters married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill on July 20, 1968. While the couple lived in Burnsville and raised their son, Helen worked in data entry for Cargill, Data Systems Inc., and finally, Data Input Services, Corp. After their retirement, she and Richard settled in New Prague.
Helen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She belonged to Catholic Aid and was a dedicated supporter of Catholic education and ministries such as the Catholic School and Caring and Sharing Hands. She enjoyed collecting marbles and belonged to a club of marble enthusiasts. The many cardinal statues gracing her home also became a treasured collection. Perhaps it was her son, Brian’s, involvement playing baseball that gave her a love of the sport but as long as there was a Twins game on TV, Helen had something to watch! Her grandchildren lit up her life and Helen loved nothing more than the time spent with them.
Helen is survived by her son, Brian (Cathy) of Rosemount; grandchildren, Tyler and Kara; sister, Verna (Leonard) Eischens of Belle Plaine; brother, James (Lois) Giesen of Union Hill. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard on February 23, 2024; her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with Father Eugene Theisen officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4-7 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home. There will be NO visitation on Tuesday morning. Burial will occur at St. John’s Cemetery with lunch following at the KC Hall.
