Helen D. Kajer

Helen Dorothy Kajer, 89, of New Prague, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague. She was born August 20, 1928, in New Prague, to Edward and Helen (Ziska) Kes. She attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School, graduating in 1946. She attended school in Minneapolis and was certified as an X-Ray technician. She returned to New Prague and worked at Community Memorial Hospital and later at Queen of Peace Hospital, where she helped Sister Catherine open the Business Office. She married Ronald Kajer on September 2, 1950, at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. In 1968 she began working at the New Prague Memorial Library as an assistant librarian and later became branch manager. She retired in 1993. She enjoyed playing in weekly bridge and canasta clubs, reading, taking care of her flowers and caring for her cat, Abby. She volunteered at St. Wenceslaus Church, especially working in the Country Store for the church festival, and also served a three-year term on the festival’s Top 6. She also helped organize class reunions for her high school Class of 1946. She and her husband enjoyed visiting antique shops and finding antique furniture. But her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially grandsons Josh, Andrew, Charlie, Robert and Luke.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronnie, in 2006; sister, Gladys and brother-in-law, Ralph Bisek; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Milton) Brown and Bernice (Leonard) Hruby and a nephew, Dr. Mark Hruby.
Survivors include son, Chuck and his wife, Jennifer Kajer of New Prague; daughter, Ann and her husband, Chuck Roskam of Chaska; grandsons, Josh (Angela) Kajer of Lonsdale; Andrew Kajer of St. Paul; Robert Kajer of Duluth, Charlie Roskam and Luke Roskam, both of Chaska; great-granddaughter, Alice Kajer; brother-in-law, Bill (Joyce) Kajer of New Prague; many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the Legion Clubroom.
