Hal Bass
December 30, 1945 - August 31, 2024
Hal passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2024. His life was full of many adventures during his journey. Hal’s love of baseball as a child and into high school brought a scouting team and an offer to enter the baseball farm system. Also in high school, he placed second in the state wrestling tournament. But rather than pursue sports, in 1963 he enlisted in the Air Force. Hal proudly served his country while in Vietnam trained in air rescue and later as a LRRP team combat medic. After the service, he was a medical equipment sales representative. Later he became a personal trainer and won the Mr. Minnesota over age 50 bodybuilding competition.
Hal met his wife Maggie in 1999 together they enjoyed over 25 years of marriage. Saving the best for last, Hal put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ and truly enjoyed his walk with Christ.
Surviving Hal is his wife Maggie, daughter Jennifer Gearman (Micheal), and grandchildren Marissa and Trevor Gearman.
Services will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery on September 12th at 1:00 p.m. Luncheon will follow services at Hillspring Church in New Prague (200 East 280th St., New Prague, MN). Hal’s wife requests no flowers. However, please pray for your family and cherish them.
My dear Uncle Harold, let me say 1st I was the ONLY 1 that was allowed to call you Harold, well at least that’s what you told me. I am missing our weekly calls your laugh. My dear friend Hal is gone. Very hard for me to deal with this loss.
My Pal Hal – I will not forget you!
Hal was always entertaining in conversation, breakfast with “the boys” on Friday at Hy-Vee, giving of his time for PT, giving away clothing where needed. His service to our country is appreciated. Maggie you were the one he loved and bragged about. God bless you as you navigate through all of this. We will support you in any way you want.
Remember Hal from many years back. He went through some difficult times until he found Jesus. God has you in his arms
Maggie and family,
To say our hearts broke when we heard this news, would be an understatement. We always loved our chats with Hal; his sincere and genuine interest in our boys, especially in Patrick, will remain very precious. We pray that Jesus wraps you all in His arms as you navigate this path and we are so grateful that Hal trusted in Him.
Hal and Maggie were some of the first friends Mark and I met at Church. Always so warm and welcoming.
Maggie, are hearts go out to you and your family.
We will miss our dear friend Hal.
Hal would always have a friendly witty comment to share and we loved his sense of humor and appreciate his willingness to jump in and offer his support to those around.
Peace be with you
