Gordon J. Malterud

May 15, 1955 - July 14, 2020

Gordon J. Malterud, age 65, of New Prague, died peacefully, with his family present after a prolonged illness at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital – Mankato on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.  Gordy was born on May 15, 1955 in Corpus Christie, TX to James and Janet (Roberts) Malterud.  He grew up in the Mountain Iron/Virginia, MN area, moved to and finished his early education graduating from Owatonna High School.  He earned an associate degree from Austin Vo-Tech school and went on to further his education with an electrical engineering degree from the U of M and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.  Gordy worked as an electrical engineer with numerous companies during his career, i.e. Siemons, EF Johnson, King Company, Samsung, and most recently, US LED.  After retirement, he worked at NAPA in New Prague.

Gordy was a member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs in Owatonna, where he met the love of his life, Odell Gosewich.  He was an introvert but the kind of person who made friends easily and once he did, was a friend for life; he gave of himself readily and was always eager to help.  He loved fishing and hunting, gardening and grilling and could often be found tinkering at fixing vehicles.  He was an avid Vikings and hockey fan, the North Stars in Texas and the Wild in Minnesota.

Gordie is survived by his significant other, Odell Gosewich of New Prague; son, Anthony Malterud of Lakeville; Odell’s children, Stacy (Tim) Nelson of Owatonna, Corey (Leah) Wagner of Mankato, Nathan Wagner of Owatonna; brother, Mark (Colleen) Malterud of Eagan; Odell’s grandchildren, Brandon Nelson & Sydney, Tanner (Chelsea) Nelson, Logan Nelson & McKenna, Brody, John, & Oliver; Odell’s great-grandchildren, Kinsley & Waylon.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Malterud.

That picture was 100% Gordy. He always had that kind of smile. Never knew what he was thinking or ready to say. Will miss him much!
