December 7, 1943 - March 16, 2021
Gladys R. Eilers, age 77, of New Prague, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at King’s Way in Belle Plaine. Gladys was born on December 7, 1943 in New Prague to Leonard and Christine (Wolf) Nytes. She was born and raised in the Union Hill area, attending Le Sueur County District School and was a 1961 graduate of New Prague High School. Gladys married Donald W. “Fuzzy” Eilers on April 12, 1980 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill and the two were pretty inseparable ever since! She was a member of St. John’s Parish Catholic Aid Association and then St. Wenceslaus Parish. Fuzzy was a faithful member of Pioneer Power and Gladys joined him by cooking at the events. She worked as a seamstress for Munsingwear in Montgomery for 20 years, then cooked at the Torchlight Supper Club from 1983-89 and finally finished out her career from 1987-95 in food service at New Prague Public Schools. With all of this, she was also a dedicated farm wife, helping Fuzzy in those duties.
Gladys and Fuzzy enjoyed cruises, going on 8 cruises in 7 years, the longest of which was a transatlantic one. They cruised the Panama Canal 3 different times and visited Alaska, Iceland, Greenland to name a few. She was a wonderful baker, with Kolacky being a specialty. She enjoyed collecting antiques, reamers, and other glass & crystal items and entered both Le Sueur and Scott County Fairs, receiving many champion and grand champion ribbons. She also enjoyed frequent trips to favorite casinos in the area. Her greatest joy in life, however, came from the close relationships with her nieces and nephews and their growing families. She always had time for and took great pride in them. She will be missed so very much by them and the friends and the caregivers she had at King’s Way.
Gladys is survived by her siblings, Della Braun of Bloomington, Helen (Dennis) Burmeister of Bloomington, James (Ruth Ann) Nytes of Henderson, Roman (Jeannie) Nytes of New Prague, Ramona (Mike) Hentges of Shakopee; many nieces, nephews, great- nieces & nephews, and great-great-nieces & nephews. She is preceded by her husband, Fuzzy on April 1, 2020; parents.
