Donald W. “Fuzzy” Eilers

January 19, 1937 - April 1, 2020

Donald W. “Fuzzy” Eilers, age 83, of New Prague, died peacefully with his loving wife at his side on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his home.  He died just shy of his 40th wedding anniversary.  Don was born on January 19, 1937 in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County to Edwin H. and Matilda L. (Miller) Eilers.  He graduated from New Prague High School in 1954, farmed with his dad for five years, and then entered the US Army, where he served in the Korean War as a Specialist 5th Class.  Upon returning, he worked construction for a year until taking up crop and dairy and hog farming for almost 30 years.  He married the love of his life, Gladys R. Nytes on April 12, 1980 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill.  While farming, he also drove school bus from 1983 until retiring in 2004.  Don served on the Lanesburgh Township Board for 23 years.  He was on the Joint Planning Commission for Lanesburgh, New Prague, and Le Sueur County, a member of the Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association, and on the cemetery board for Friedens Lutheran Cemetery.  He belonged to the VFW and American Legion.  Don was an avid Vikings fan and a season ticket holder.  He had an interest in history and nostalgia which was satisfied with trips to swap meets and reenacting the shooting of Civil War canons.  A favorite uncle, Fuzzy was much loved and will be sorely missed by his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Don is survived by his wife, Gladys; sisters, Janie Eilers and Joyce Eilers both of Minneapolis; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Della Braun, Helen (Dennis) Burnmeister, James (Ruth Ann) Nytes, Roman (Jeannie) Nytes, Ramona (Michael) Hentges; 15 nieces & nephews; 27 great-nieces & great-nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lanesburgh.  Visitation will take place from 1 - 2 PM with the service immediately following at 2 PM.  Burial will take place in the church cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Lunch will follow in the church social hall.  Due to the fluid nature of COVID-19 restrictions, updates regarding attendance and other restrictions will be posted to this website.  Masks are recommended by Friedens Lutheran Church.
