David Solheid
April 24, 1946 - August 16, 2024
David J. Solheid, age 78, of Union Hill, died peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at a hospice in St. Paul. Dave was born on April 24, 1946, in New Prague, to Michael and Mary (Pint) Solheid. He graduated from New Prague High School and served in the US Army, where he received awards for his marksmanship. He married Judy Fitzke on October 4, 1969, in New Prague. Dave worked for Scott Equipment for over 30 years, retiring as a shop foreman.
Dave was known as a humble, quiet, reserved man with a strong work ethic. His life revolved around his job but he continued to find projects after hours in his shop, whether it was refinishing furniture or creating them in the forms of chairs, swings, and outdoor decorations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an enthusiastic member of the St. John’s choir. He loved baseball and was a member of the Over-60 League. Dave had a gentle smile and a kind nature that will be missed by those who loved him.
Dave is survived by his children, Brad Solheid (fiancé, Melanie Zakariasen) of Anoka, Greg Solheid (Nick Karg) of Savage, Michelle (Andrew) Trcka of Montgomery; 6 grandchildren; sisters, Madalen Friedges of New Market and Sally Nash of Coon Rapids. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy on June 25, 2007; son, Chad; parents; sisters, Adeline Solheid & Vera Simon.
A Catholic Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father Joseph Gifford officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-7 PM. Military Honors will be provided by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard immediately after the service in the funeral home parking lot.
My son was born in 2013 and considered Dave a “grandpa” but now we have to completely erase that memory I guess. “Families” are weird. Rest in peace Dave.
So sorry for your loss .
Very sorry for your loss. My condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Dave.
Dave was my mothers baby brother, my uncle, but he was only 6 years older than I am. As kids hanging out in the pasture of the family farm in Union Hill he sometimes got tired of this kid tagging along with him and his neighboring cousins but I have many good memories. We developed a great relationship over the 7 decades. More like brothers than uncle/nephew. I will miss him dearly.
Dave was a devoted Knights of Columbus member. He helped work the bingos at the KC Hall for many years and also worked at KC events.
