Bob Wieland

July 6, 1944 - April 30, 2023
Robert C. Wieland, age 78, of New Prague, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness at Praha Village on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Bob was born on July 6, 1944 in New Prague to John H. and Eleanor (Bohnsack) Wieland. He graduated from New Prague High School with the class of 1962, attended Bethany College for a short time, and then served in the US Navy from 1962-66 in the Vietnam War. After returning from military service, Bob’s strong work ethic came into play in his career driving truck for LaFramboise in Le Center, Viessman in New Prague, and for over 20 years with Yellow Freight in Burnsville. Bob loved to hunt and fish and thoroughly enjoyed his yearly trips to the Rocky Mountains in search of the elusive elk with his hunting buddies. Once he moved to Praha Village, he soon became a beloved member of that community. He spent his days in the front lobby as a greeter and knew who owned every car that entered the parking lot, affectionately known by staff as their “security guard”. His warm personality and gentle nature will be missed by his family and his many friends at Praha.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Sherri Wiggins (Bob Zwart) of Warsaw, MN and Lori Wieland of Prattville, AL; grandchildren, Shawn (Kaitlyn), Andrew (Holly), Jessica (Tony), Madison; great-grandchildren, Beau, Letti, Callan. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Wieland.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Bruzek Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Steve Trewartha officiating. Visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to service from 1-3 PM. Burial will follow the service at Czech National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Bob was such a great guy at Praha Village! I loved waving to him as I entered or departed the building. I will miss him at his post in the living room.
