Albert Peter Braith

February 4, 1941 - January 1, 2019

Albert Peter Braith, age 77 of New Prague, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home after battling prostate cancer for over 19 years.  Albert was born February 4, 1941 in Sebeka, MN to Henry & Mary (Friedl) Braith.  On October 6, 1962, he married Carol Kruger in Wheaton, MN.  Last October they were married 56 years, and a very huge and fun 50thanniversary party was held in 2012.  They have 6 children: Bonita (Ken) Lambrecht, Ronald (Dodie) Braith, Howard (Doreen) Braith, Victor (Mary) Braith, Patricia (John) Scheffler, and Russell (Jenny) Braith.  Al and Carol have 19 grandchildren, listed by family: Nicholas (Beth) Braith, Matthew (Sarah) Braith, Michael; Ashley (Reuben) Prasil, Alyssa (Loren) Cook, Annie (Brian) Bolier, Amanda (special friend, Zach); Timothy (Courtney) Braith, Rebecca (special friend, Isaiah), David (Special friend, Miranda); John (Amanda) Braith, Kevin (Brianna), Katrina (Joe) Anderson; Andrea (John) Lehman, Megan (Mitch) Kreuger, Alicia (Tim) Kern, Amy (special friend, Will); Taylor, Dillon (Kelli) Braith.  There are 29 great-grandchildren.

Forty plus years ago, Al and Carol and family settled in St. Patrick, MN.  Al opened his mechanic shop on the place where he trained his 4 boys; his girls also learned some mechanics.  In addition, he was a mentor for a few other neighborhood boys in their careers as mechanics, welders, vehicle painters, plumbers, and builders.  His biggest love was playing music in various bands at prayer meetings, churches, weddings, funerals and anniversaries.  He started playing and singing publicly at 14 years of age and at that time mainly with his cousin and his sisters.  Most of his life was spent playing music and singing with his relatives, his own family and friends.  He played accordion, guitar, mandolin, Hawaiian steel guitar, and at 32 years of age, he learned the concertina, all of which was played and sung by ear.

The youngest of 7 children, Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Braith; three sisters, Martina Tappe, Marie Rumelhart, & Martha Hinds.  He is survived by two brothers, Henry Braith and John (Ruth) Braith.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Bolin of Calvary Church officiating.  Visitation will take place on Friday from 4-8 PM and Saturday morning from 10–11 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Lunch will immediately follow the service at the St. Patrick Church Social Hall.
