June V. Scheel, age 88, of New Prague, died suddenly at her home on Friday, February 16, 2018.  June was born on September 18, 1929 in Wheeler, Wisconsin, to Clifford R. and Ruby (Owen) Harland.  She was raised in the Colfax area, attended country school, and married the love of her life, Dennis Scheel, on March 29, 1947, in Stillwater, Minnesota.  The couple farmed on Dennis’s father’s family farm until they moved to New Prague in 1955.  June did day care in her home and then worked in the print shop at the Minnesota Valley Breeders.  Finally, she did commercial cleaning to round out her out-of-home employment.  Her greatest accomplishment, however, was in raising her children and creating a loving home.  June was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, holding all of the officers’ positions.  She was a Boy Scout den mother and a very active volunteer at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  She loved the outdoors, especially gardening and hummingbirds.  She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, dancing, and fishing along with her husband.  June was always reaching out to others, helping with such things as rides to the grocery store and  appointments.  Her greatest joy came, however, in spending time with her family.

June is survived by her children, Bonnie Aebly of Le Center, Denise (Tony) Smisek of New Prague, Daniel (Kathleen) Scheel of Montgomery, Rodney Scheel (Franny Kvam) of New Market; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, on October 25, 2014; parents; grandchildren, Larry Clough, Kevin & Kenny Hinderscheit; siblings, Dutch Harland, Carole Krohmer, Fern Assen, Geneva Waite, Owen Harland, Florence Nieman.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Hilding officiating.  Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to service at church from 9 – 11 AM.  Burial will occur at Czech National Cemetery followed by lunch in the fellowship hall at church.
