Thomas T. Fitzke, age 74, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.  Tom was born on May 23, 1942 in New Prague to Theodore A. and Alice M. (Kucera) Fitzke.  He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, graduated from New Prague High School, and attended the College of St. Thomas for a short time.  He entered the US Army in 1962, served as an MP, was discharged in 1964, and then served in the Army Reserves until 1968.  On December 29, 1962, while on leave, Tom married Constance E. “Connie” Slavik at St. Wenceslaus Church.  Tom worked numerous jobs, starting as a custodian for New Prague High School, driving Ready-mix for Mach Lumber and Kratochvil Construction, and 4 years as an Amoco agent.  His primary career was spent with International Mulifoods/ConAgra, retiring after 27 years.  Tom was a member of the American Legion and a volunteer firefighter with NPFD.  He was outgoing and enjoyed nothing more than a good conversation.  He loved playing cards, Solitaire, and puzzle books.  Spending time with his family was one of his greatest pleasures.

Tom is survived by his wife, Connie, of New Prague; children, Deb (Steve) May of New Prague, Dan Fitzke of New Prague, Nancy (Shane) Laffen of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Mary Jo Zgonc of Lindstrom, Betty (Eugene) Tupy of New Prague; brother-in-law, David (Rosie) Solheid of Norwood; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted & Alice Fitzke; sister, Judith Solheid; brother-in-law, Richard Zgonc.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 26, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will take place Thursday, the 25th from 4-8 PM and Friday morning from 7:30-9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors will be conducted and lunch will follow at the Legion Clubroom.
