Francis E. Novak, age 90, of New Prague, formerly of Veseli, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday May 5, 2017 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.  Francis was born August 15, 1926 in Wheatland Township, in Rice County, Minnesota to Edward J. and Julia M. (Malecha) Novak.  He attended Rice County District School in Veseli.  As a teenager Francis also hauled milk and gravel with his brother.   He entered the US Army and served during WWII.   He earned his GED while in the army and after military service he attended Dunwoody Institute for blacksmithing and welding.  After his schooling he worked at Continental Machines in Savage and founded “Novak’s Garage” in Veseli and also ran a hobby farm. He retired from the garage in the late 1990’s.Francis met Evelyn M. Voracek and married on May 15, 1950 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Veseli. He enjoyed watching football and baseball on TV and was a member of the Lonsdale American Legion.

 Francis is survived by his wife Evelyn of New Prague; 9 children Joyce (Larry) Adamek, Bernard Novak, Bernice (Kelly) Marek, Kenneth (RoxAnne) Novak, Greg (Bonnie) Novak, Ann (Bill) Hertaus, Tim (Paula) Novak, Cathy (Rick) Bartusek, Barb (John) LaCanne; sister, Janet Ceplecha of Lonsdale; 27 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

 Francis is preceded in death by brothers Jerome J. and Leonard H. Novak, and daughter-in-law Eileen Novak.

Funeral services Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation Monday from 4-8 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30- 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.  Burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Veseli with military honors conducted by the Lonsdale Veterans Honor Guard.  Lunch at the Lonsdale American Legion Hall after the burial.
