Ronald R. Larson, age 73, of New Prague died unexpectedly on Sunday March 5, 2017 at his home.  Ron was born November 9, 1943 in Parkers Prairie, Ottertail County, MN to Raymond W. and Hilda C (Raap) Larson.  He attended Parkers Prairie High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1961 right out of high school.  After military service he attended Control Data Institute (CDI) technical school and was then hired by Control Data as a computer technician.

Ron married Judith E. Klein on September 11, 1965 in Urbank, MN while he was working for Control Data.  They lived in Bloomington and Richfield prior to moving to New Prague in 1980.  He took early retirement from Control Data in about 1993 to follow his passion of training his own and other’s horses for riding.  In earlier years he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, broomball, and hockey, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trail rider who also enjoyed setting up the campfire.

Ron was a member and held office in the Sand Creek Saddle Club, and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.  He enjoyed watching his daughters participate in 4-H and Western Saddle Club Association (WSCA) shows as they grew up, and more recently enjoyed his grandchildren’s sporting events.  The recent acquisition of a Bobcat Skid Loader gave Ron excitement right up until his untimely departure.

Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years Judy of New Prague; daughters Jody (Jess) Janecek of Mounds View, Kim (Joe) Janecek of Blaine, and Heather (Kevin) Seurer of Elko New Market; sister Beverly (Garrell) Batesole of Minden, NV; and 8 grandchildren   (Matt, Josh and Luke Janecek, Tyler and Samantha Janecek, and Emma, Audrey and Caroline Seurer).  He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings in childhood Meryl and Joycelyn Larson.

A memorial celebration of life will be held Saturday March 11, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Chaplain Joan Ersfeld of Heartland Hospice officiating.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM.  Military honors by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard will conclude the service.  Burial will be at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Urbank, MN.
