Helen E. Krohn, age 96, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday December 9, 2016 at Mala Strana Nursing Home in New Prague.  Helen was born July 12, 1920, in Montgomery, MN, to Albert & Elizabeth (Ceplecha) Tuma.  Elizabeth passed away when Helen was only 7, and her Dad died two years later of TB.  She was raised in Le Center by her uncle and aunt, Jake and Catherine Tuma.  She attended Le Center Public School and graduated from Waterville High School.  After her marriage to Merlin H. Krohn on Oct. 12, 1940 in Montgomery, Helen worked as a Dietary Aide at the Glen Lake Sanatorium for TB patients where she cared for the children.   She also worked in the Bindery Dept. at Suel Printing Co. for several years and as a housekeeper at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.  With her husband, she owned and operated the Corner Bar in New Prague for many years.  

Known as an exceptional baker and cook, Helen enjoyed crocheting and playing poker with her card club.  She had a love of music including the WWII era, the 1950’s, and church hymns.  Active in VFW auxiliary, she was a church volunteer, a caring grandmother, and a fluent Czech speaker.

Helen is survived by her children, Carol Triden of Savage, Gary of Bemidji, Sharon (& Michael) Mahowald of Burnsville, Deborah (& Kent) Johnson of Shakopee, and Jeffery (& Lori) of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her only nephew, Jeffrey (& Patty) Tuma of Excelsior.  She is preceded in death by her husband Merlin on November 8, 2006; parents Albert & Elizabeth; baby daughter in infancy; brother Quentin Tuma and his daughter Dori; two step-brothers, Eamus and Joseph Tuma; daughter-in-law, Sandy Krohn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague with Father Kevin Clinton officiating.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home one hour prior to Mass.  Burial will occur in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague immediately after Mass followed by lunch at the Legion Clubroom.
