Lidwina G. “Ludy” Giesen, age 85, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at her home at Philipp Square in the early hours of  Wednesday, November 30, 2016.  Ludy was born April 14, 1931, in New Prague to John M. & Martha C. (Schwingler) Huss.  She attended Parochial School in Union Hill for 8 years and then stayed home to lovingly care for her sister, Carol, who was born with Down’s Syndrome. Before her marriage to Gerald C. “Jerry” Giesen on June 13, 1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill, Ludy worked as a waitress at Mickey’s Diner in St. Paul and also as an elevator operator at 1st National Bank in St. Paul.  After marriage, she worked at home making soap for Minnetonka Labs until her youngest daughter entered kindergarten.  At that time, she started working for Minnesota Valley Engineering (MVE) as a plumber, a position she held for over 20 years.

Ludy was very active at St. John’s Catholic Church as a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Aid, the church choir, the church quilters, and leader of the prayer chain.  In addition she volunteered at Queen of Peace Hospital.  She was a woman of deep faith, who was completely selfless.  Her family was her greatest joy and her first priority, loving and caring to all.  Sewing, cooking, baking, and gardening rounded out her interests.

Ludy is survived by her children, Dennis (Kim) Giesen of Deer River, Debra (Gary) Finn of Menomonee Falls, WI, Rick (Diane) Giesen of New Prague, Donna (Mark) Steinbach of Sauk Rapids, Gail Giesen of New Prague, Lana (Ken) Varoga of Sauk Rapids, Shirley (Mike) Meyers of East Bethel; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Marlys) Huss of New Jersey, Marvin (Evelyn) Huss of Savage; sisters, Janice Neisen of Shakopee, Marlene (Larry) Voigt of Palmer; brother-in-law, Richard (Anne) Hartman of Jordan.  She is preceded in death by her parents, John & Martha; husband, Jerry on January 29, 2002; daughter, Diane Giesen on January 13, 1978; brothers, Linus and Wallace Huss; sisters, Margie Hartman and Carol Huss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 5, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with Father David Barrett officiating.  Visitation will take place Sunday from 4 – 8 PM and Monday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur in the church cemetery immediately after Mass followed by lunch at the KC Hall.  Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
